The short answer
Andorra has a national university offering a limited number of courses. Many students then continue in France or Spain. The choice depends on the field of study, the language and the career plan.
The local offer
The university offers programmes in a few fields; the offer is narrower than that of a large university system.
After secondary school
Pupils from the French, Spanish or Andorran streams often turn to neighbouring universities.

What is known about the university
The Universitat d'Andorra is the country's public university. Higher education began in 1988 with a nursing school and a computing school; the university was established by law in 1997, and its campus in Sant Julià de Lòria was inaugurated in 2004. It offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees aligned with the European Higher Education Area, with continuing education for adults.
In 2021-2022, the most popular bachelor's degrees were business administration, nursing and computing, for a total of about 493 students at the university. In April 2025, the university and the Open University of Catalonia announced two joint bachelor's degrees in political science and international relations.
The higher education landscape
The quality agency counts eight universities in 2025, compared with three in 2019, with 2,231 students enrolled across the whole system in 2024-2025, a fall of 26% compared with the previous year. Part of the offer is distance-learning and private.
For a pupil from a foreign system
Pupils from the French, Spanish or Andorran streams often turn to neighbouring universities (France, Catalonia). Plan ahead for diploma equivalences, enrolment fees and student housing from the penultimate year of secondary school. Sums received from abroad to study are not taxable in Andorra: see students and trainees.
