Safety in Andorra: crime, emergencies and good practice

The short answer

Andorra is known for its low level of crime. The main risks are those of the mountains (weather, avalanches, sporting accidents). Knowing the emergency numbers and equipping yourself properly remains essential.

Everyday life

The towns are considered safe. The usual precautions apply.

Mountains

Check the weather and risk bulletins, tell others your route and equip yourself.

Emergencies

The European emergency number works. Also note the local numbers.

Health and insurance

Arrange cover suited to mountain sports. See healthcare.

Police data for 2025

According to the security statistics published in 2026, the police recorded 4,009 offences in 2025, which is 2.5% fewer than in 2024 (4,110). They break down into 2,255 criminal offences (délits) and 1,754 minor criminal offences (contraventions). The police made 779 arrests, down 18.6%. Offences against property rose slightly, with 691 thefts among 1,085 offences of this type, while domestic and gender-based violence increased.

Relative to the 89,058 resident inhabitants, these 4,009 offences represent about 45 per 1,000 inhabitants.

Figures to read with caution

Police statistics and those of the prosecutor's office do not count the same thing: one records offences observed, the other cases handled. A heavily touristic border country also receives many visitors, who are not part of the resident population. Comparing with France therefore requires identical definitions.

A single 112 line project is announced for 2027: check the numbers before a trip.

In the mountains

Check the weather and avalanche risk bulletins, tell others your route, equip yourself, and do not set out alone on an exposed route. See also healthcare and insurance: insurance covering mountain rescue is useful.
