The short answer
Special statuses exist for people whose presence is of cultural, scientific or sporting interest to Andorra. You must demonstrate that interest through a documented file; the decision is discretionary and taken case by case.
Principle
These statuses recognise that some people bring value to the country that is not measured only in employment or investment: cultural influence, research, sporting results, projects of general interest.

Steps
- Check that the profile genuinely falls within the category and not within a standard gainful activity.
- Gather evidence of the career and the project.
- If possible, obtain local support (letter from an institution).

Taxation
The income of athletes and artists (rights, sponsorship, competitions) raises questions of territoriality. See IRPF and the France-Andorra treaty.
What the law says
Article 100 of the immigration law defines this status: a foreign person enjoying international recognition for their talent in science, culture or sport, who establishes their main and effective residence in Andorra for at least 90 daysverified on 12/10/2026 per calendar year.
The financial conditions
- The applicant must prove that their activity in their field allows them to generate sufficient resources, for themselves and their dependants, throughout the residency.
- The main holder deposits 47,500 €verified on 12/10/2026 with the Andorran financial authority, plus 9,500 €verified on 12/10/2026 per dependant. The deposit is returned on departure, cancellation or non-renewal, less costs and withholdings.
- The general conditions also apply: health cover valid in Andorra, suitable housing, criminal record.
Why proof of international recognition matters
The law sets no list of qualifications. It targets an internationally recognised talent: a track record, publications, exhibitions or verifiable contracts are worth more than a general letter. See also athletes and artists: taxation.

A top-level sporting career can be a favourable element of the file, but it guarantees nothing. The administration assesses the concrete interest for Andorra.
