Public holidays in Andorra: legal framework, national and parish holidays, and how to count them

The short answer

Andorran public holidays follow the working calendar and are paid, with parish holidays set by each Comú. The exact dates for each year are published by the government: check the official calendar before planning payroll.

What the law says

Article 62 of Llei 31/2018 gives employees the right to enjoy the public holidays of the working calendar, paid, in accordance with the provisions in force and the customs of each sector. Two useful points:

  • Bridge days. By company agreement or collective agreement, or if the parties so agree, one or two working days between two holidays may be taken off, with the hours to be made up on the preceding or following days. The mandatory weekly rest and the maximum daily duration of ten hours must be respected.
  • Parish holidays. If an employee works in several places, the employer sets the parish holidays that apply according to the company's registered office or the place where the work is performed. The annual total of parish holidays cannot be lower than the minimum number set by the Comú where the company is established.

The days generally observed

The national calendar includes fixed holidays (New Year's Day, Epiphany, Constitution Day, 1 May, Assumption, the national holiday of Meritxell, All Saints' Day, Immaculate Conception, Christmas, Saint Stephen's Day) and movable holidays tied to Easter. In 2026, Easter falls on 5 April: Good Friday is 3 April, Easter Monday 6 April and Whit Monday 25 May. Calendar websites do not agree on every day (carnival, Maundy Thursday) and do not give the holidays of each parish: do not rely on them for payroll.

How to check

  1. The working calendar published each year by the government (Ministry of Labour).
  2. The calendar of the Comú where the employee works, for parish holidays.
  3. The collective agreement or the contract, which may add days.

What this means for an employer

A holiday that is worked gives rise to the compensation provided for by the contract or the collective agreement. Plan bridge days with employees in writing to avoid disputes. See employment law and cost of an employee.

For a resident or an entrepreneur

Patron saint festivals (Meritxell, Sant Julià, etc.) and bridge days affect the opening of government offices, banks and notaries: allow for them in your timelines, especially for an authorisation or a signing.
