Family reunification in Andorra: spouse, children and ascendants

The short answer

An Andorran resident can apply for certain family members to join them, subject to conditions on family ties, housing and resources. The precise conditions depend on the status of the resident applying for reunification.

Who can apply

Family reunification is an application filed as an attachment to a resident who already holds a status. The conditions vary according to that status: an active or passive resident is not treated in exactly the same way.

Items generally requested

  • Proof of the family tie (marriage certificate, birth certificate, family record book, translated if necessary).
  • Housing suited to the size of the household.
  • Sufficient resources.
  • Health insurance for each member.
  • Identity documents, criminal record certificate for adults.

Cost

Application fees apply: the amount is set by the administration and is confirmed on filing. For passive residency, a specific amount per dependant is provided for: 12,000 €verified on 09/10/2026.

Practical organisation of the family

Who can apply and who can be reunited

Under the immigration law, family reunification may be requested by a person of Andorran nationality residing in Andorra, or by a foreigner holding a residence and work authorisation who has resided lawfully, effectively and permanently in Andorra during the preceding 3 monthsverified on 12/10/2026.

The following people can be reunited:

PersonCondition
Spouse or stable-union partnerTie documented
Minor children, and minor children of the spouse in the applicant's custodyLegal custody
Adult children who are dependent or under guardianshipDependent or under protection
Dependent ascendantsAt least 65 yearsverified on 12/10/2026 or retired
Other persons under guardianshipSpecial cases provided for by law

The applicant's conditions

The applicant must show sufficient financial means to ensure a dignified standard of living and adequate housing (minimum habitability conditions), maintained throughout the duration of the authorisation. Each reunited person must have insurance covering medical costs valid in Andorra. The home of the spouse and of children under 16 is the applicant's household.

The case of residents without gainful activity

A holder of residency without gainful activity, residency for professionals with an international profile, for scientific, cultural or sporting interest, or for remote workers, applies for reunification under the rules of those statuses. A payment per dependant may apply: see passive residency.

Practical tips

  1. Have civil status documents translated and legalised in advance.
  2. Arrange health insurance for each member before filing.
  3. Check that the housing meets the minimum conditions for the whole family.
  4. An active resident waits 3 monthsverified on 12/10/2026 of effective residence before applying.
